The evergreen Gautam Gambhir showed once again that he continues to have a lot to offer to anyone willing to take him on, as the veteran Indian opener smashed an unbeaten 90 from just 60 balls to guide the Kolkata Knight Riders to their second win of the season, against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are yet to get off the mark once again this year.

Gambhir's half-century was his second of the tournament this season and his 28th overall as the spunky left-hander shared another quality opening stand with Robin Uthappa (38) to guide the Kolkata Knight Riders to a win. KKR move up to 2nd in the IPL standings behind the Gujarat Lions, who have played a game less and have a better net run rate.

The flip of the coin went the way of the hosts, who slightly surprisingly opted to bat first, given the success teams have had thus far chasing in this tournament. The Sunrisers were far from their best with the willow in hand and struggled to 142-7 in their 20 overs with Eoin Morgan top scoring with 51. Wicketkeeper Naman Ojha chipped in with 37, but there were hardly any other contributions of note as David Warner (13), Shikhar Dhawan (6) and Moises Henriques (6) all failed at the top of the order.

Umesh Yadav (3-28) and Morne Morkel (2-35) did the bulk of the damage with their pace, and it could have been even worse for the Sunrisers had Morkel not overstepped when he dismissed David Warner in the first over of the match.

A target of 143 was never really going to challenge KKR, and the 92 run partnership at the top of the order put the game out of sight for the hosts. The only real highlight of the innings for the Sunrisers was a gorgeous yorker from Mustafizur Rahman to dismiss Andre Russell for 2.

Manish Pandey joined Gambhir out in the middle and took KKR to victory with a run a ball 11.

The Knight Riders' next game sees them visit the Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on Tuesday, while the Sunrisers Hyderabad will continue to enjoy home comforts as they search for their first win against the Mumbai Indians on Monday.
