Top seed Richard Gasquet won his thirteenth career ATP Tour title and his third at the Open Sud de France beating compatriot Paul-Henri Mathieu 7-5 6-4 in an all French final in Montpellier on Sunday.

Gasquet, champion here in 2013 and 2015, was competing in his fourth straight final at the event, and looked to be on the ropes when Mathieu served for the first set at 5-4, only to rattle off three games in a row and nick the opening set 7-5.

29 year old Gasquet carried that momentum forward into the second set to go up and early break, and though he had to battle to hold serve in the 8th game, was able to wrap up the contest in straight sets in a shade under 2 hours.

The win was Gasquet's first title of the year, and actually his first since last May, when he beat Nick Kyrgios of Australia in the final of the Estoril Open.

A delighted Gasquet shared after the match, "It was great for me to win another title. I am very proud to win my third title here, because it was a great match against a good friend. He had nothing to lose, so it was great to win."

Mate Pavic of Croatia and Michael Venus of New Zealand clinched the doubles title, beating the Zverev brothers Alexander and Mischa in the final, 7-5, 7-6 (4). The Croatian-New Zealand duo also won the Auckland Open last month and now have three titles together.
