World no.1 Serena Williams stayed on course for a record equaling 22nd Grand Slam title, crushing long term rival Maria Sharapova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the Australian Open semi-finals. Joining her in the final of the year's first Grand Slam is the no.4 seed Agnieszka Radwanska, a 6-1, 6-3 winner herself against 10th seed Carla Suarez Navarro.

Radwanska opened proceedings on Rod Laver Arena this morning, and raced to a 4-0 lead as the Spaniard, a notoriously slow starter, struggled to compete with the always consistent Pole early on. Radwanska was done with the first set in a hurry, taking it 6-1.

Suarez Navarro had lost the first set 6-0 in her fourth round win against Daria Gavrilova, and she showed signs of life in the second, going toe to toe with Radwanska in the first 6 games, but too many unforced errors from the Spaniard allowed Agnieszka to close out the match with consummate ease.

Serena vs Maria was up next, and the Russian diva started better, breaking Serena's usually impregnable serve in the opening game. Serena, who was struggling with a bout of food poisoning, battled back to draw level and the set continued on serve till the pressure finally fell on Maria, serving at 4-5 to stay in the set.

Maria saved three set points as Serena stepped things up a notch, but the American legend broke through at the fourth attempt, taking the first set 6-4.

The second set failed to live up to the quality of the first with Maria, having lost 17 straight times to Serena, failing to mount any real challenge and Williams powering her way into the semi-finals.

Serena will take an 8-0 record against Agnieszka into that match, and will be the overwhelming favourite to advance to her 7th Australian Open final.
