The world no.1 pairing of Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza followed up their triumph at Wimbledon earlier this year by also capturing the US Open Women's Doubles title, crushing the Australian - Kazazh pairing of Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslav Shvedova 6-3, 6-3 in the final today.

Playing in front of a near empty Arthur Ashe stadium a four hours before the Men's Singles Final gets underway, Mirza and Hingis started the match brightly and quickly confirmed their status as the favourites by clinching an early break of serve. Even when the duo dropped serve on the odd occasion in either set, they were always well in control of the contest, and barring some late nerves wrapped up the match in rather comfortable fashion.

Hingis, who had won the US Open Mixed Doubles title a couple of days ago playing alongside Sania's compatriot Leander Paes, was in excellent form from the back of the court, in addition to using her volleying skills to good effect.

Sania as always had an free license to go for her shots with the ultra-consistent Hingis beside her. In addition to serving really well, Sania's forehand was on fire today, and the Indian superstar also appeared a lot calmer than usual on court, handling the pressure perhaps even better than her much more experienced opponent.

Sania and Martina cruised into a 6-3, 5-2 lead before the fourth seeded duo started showing signs of life in the contest, breaking the Hingis serve as she tried to close out the contest. Shvedova, whose getting married in a couple of days, was up next and had chances to hold serve and put some more pressure on the top seeded duo, but Mirza and Hingis came up with the goods when it mattered to close out the match by breaking the Kazazh star in the 9th game.

The win is the 19th Grand Slam title of Martina Hingis' career and makes it four in a row for her in Grand Slam Finals after winning both doubles titles on offer at Wimbledon and the US Open. For 28 year old Sania, her victory is the fifth Grand Slam title of her career and her second here in New York, following up on her win in the Mixed Doubles at Flushing Meadows last year.
