The world no.1 pairing of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis continued their march towards the Women's Doubles title at the US Open, recording a convincing straight sets win against the Italian duo of Sara Errani and Flavia Pennetta.

Pennetta, who had already competed in a grueling women's quarter-final encounter against Petra Kvitova earlier in the day, looked visibly exhausted taking the court for a second time, and that made the Italians easy meat for the top seeds.

The match started off on an even keel, but a break of serve in the 8th game gave Sania Mirza an opportunity to close out the first set. The Indian superstar was promptly broken back, but that trend continued as Pennetta dropped serve too in the 10th game to hand Mirza and Hingis the first set.

The second set proved to be a walk in the park for the Indo-Swiss team with Mirza and Hingis racing away to a 4-0 lead, before closing out the contest quite comfortably 6-4. 6-1.

Hingis and Mirza's final opponents are yet to be determined with the second Women's Doubles semi-final scheduled to take place on Thursday between Casey Dellacqua / Yaroslava Shvedova and CoCo Vandeweghe / Anna-Lena Groenefeld.

Hingis meanwhile also advanced to the Mixed Doubles Final. Partnering another Indian legend Leander Paes, Hingis prevailed over the 2nd seeded duo of Yung-Jan Chan and Rohan Bopanna 6-2. 7-5.

Hingis enjoyed Double delight at Wimbledon earlier this year when she won both the doubles titles with Mirza and Paes respectively.
