Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney was in an understandably elated mood after England’s 2-0 win over Switzerland in their Euro 2016 qualifier match, which saw the 29 year old break Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 49 goals for the Three Lions to become the top scorer for them.

Rooney was quoted telling reporters after the match: “It's a great feeling. I've been close for the last few games and it's a dream come true. I was bit emotional, it's a huge honour and one I am extremely proud of... To be the record scorer before the age of 30 is nothing I could have imagined.”

Rooney, who equalled Sir Charlton’s record with a strike in England’s match against San Marino a few days ago, scored his 50th goal in his 107th international for his country, from the penalty spot, after Man City ace Raheem Sterling was brought down inside the D by Granit Xhaka.

Meanwhile, the former Everton youngster has also scored 300 goals for club and country now, with 233 of those goals coming for the Red Devils and 17 for the Toffees before that. Additionally, Rooney has averaged a goal in nearly every 162.5 minutes of play for his country – certainly pretty decent stats by international standards.

Having said that, however, the 29 year old is yet to win a major honour with the England national team, with fans hoping that he is able to break that jinx in next summer’s European Championship.
