The world no.1 team of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis powered their way into the semi-finals of the 2015 US Open with a hard fought win against the Chinese Taipei duo of Yung-Jan Chan and Hao-Ching Chan.

The Chan sisters started the match really well and raced away to a 5-0 lead with Martina Hingis in particular well off colour. The Chan sisters had beaten Mirza and Hingis already this summer, but their quick start blew the Wimbledon champions away.

However, like all great teams, Mirza and Hingis finally found their rhythm and battled back to level the opening set at 5-5.

The set eventually made its way into a tiebreak, which the world no.1 pairing sneaked away with 7-5.

That appeared to knock the wind out of the sails of the Taipei girls as they failed to mount much of a challenge in the second set with Mirza and Hingis running away with it 6-1.

Mirza and Hingis will take on the all-Italian duo of Flavia Pennetta and Sara Errani, seeded 11th in the semi-finals. Pennetta and Errani beat Lara Arruabarrena and Andreja Klepac in a lop-sided contest 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 earlier today.

Hingis is also through to the mixed doubles semi-finals. She and her other Indian partner Leander Paes received a walkover from Simona Halep and Horia Tecau. They will square off against Yung-Jan Chan and Rohan Bopanna, also from India!
