World no.1 Novak Djokovic overcame a barrage of forehands and a mid-match blip to beat the no.23 seed Roberto Bautista Agut in four well contested sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the fourth round of the US Open on Sunday night.

Djokovic appeared to be comfortably in control of the contest, leaving 6-3, 4-2 when he suddenly dropped 4 games in a row and Bautista Agut stormed back into contention in the match.

Novak took out his frustration on his racquet, and a fresh one appeared to get the job done as he was able to wrap up the contest in 4 sets, but he was never really at his invincible best with Bautista Agut giving him a worthy workout, one you would expect at this stage of the tournament.

Up next for the Serbian ace is yet another Spaniard in 18th seed Feliciano Lopez, who eased past Nadal conqueror Fabio Fognini in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(5), 6-1.

Other winners on Day 7 included defending champion Marin Cilic, who battled past big serving Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(2), 6-1.

Another Frenchman awaits him in the quarter-finals in the considerably bigger shape of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who cruised past compatriot Benoit Paire 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.

Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka and Andy Murray will all look to cement their quarter-final berths when Day 8 of the US Open kicks-off on Monday.
