Former Liverpool and Chelsea Manager Rafa Benitez enjoyed a good home debut as the man in the Real Madrid hot seat as Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez each picked up a brace as Los Blancos thrashed Real Betis 5-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bale opened the scoring for Real in the 2nd minute heading home a Rodriguez cross, and was also the last man to get on the scoresheet with gorgeous strike from distance in the 89th minute.

In between Bale's two goals Arsenal target Karim Benzema scored a header, while Rodriguez scored a couple himself, including a scrumptious free-kick.

It was an important win for Benitez, who saw his team drop two points in their season opener against Sporting Gijon last week.

Amazingly, Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored an amazing 61 goals last season, is yet to open his account in this campaign. Ronaldo was kept at bay by Betis shotstopper Antonio Adan, a former Real Madrid youth team product.

Real Betis should have got a late consolation when they were awarded a fortuitous penalty for a perceived foul by Raphael Varane, but Keylor Navas showed why the club don't really need Manchester United's David de Gea this summer by keeping out Ruben Castro's spot-kick.

Teams:

Real Madrid: Navas, Danilo, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo, Modric (Kovacic 75'), Kroos (Casemiro 64'), Rodríguez, Bale, Ronaldo, Benzema (Isco 53')

Real Betis: Adán, Piccini, Pezzella, González Cabrera, Molinero (Molina 45'), Cejudo, Torres Buigues, N'Diaye (dos Santos Araujo 81'), Vargas, Ceballos Fernández (Digard - 53'), Castro

Final Score: Real Madrid 5-0 Real Betis (Bale 2', 89', Rodriguez 39', 50', Benzema 47')
