Axar Patel bowls India 'A' to victory

Axar Patel completed an outstanding all-round match by bowling India A to victory by an innings and 81 runs over South Africa A on the final day of the unofficial four-day Test Series at the Krishnagiri Stadium in Wayanad. India thus win the series 1-0 after the first match was drawn.

India declared overnight with a first innings lead of 157 runs and then bowled South Africa out in the morning session for 76 with Patel returning the outstanding figures of 6-6-0-4. This followed his five-wicket haul in the first innings and his third highest score in the Indian innings of 69 not out. His match bowling aggregate was 9/92.

Stiaan van Zyl and Quinton de Kock were the only players to reach double figures in the South African second innings.

Only 28 overs of play was possible on Thursday during which time the home side added 75 runs for two wickets to extend their first innings lead to 157 runs with two wickets still in hand. South Africa made a good start to the day when Piedt and Hardus Viljoen took a wicket each while only five runs were added to the overnight total but thereafter India stabilised their position with an unbroken ninth wicket partnership of 69 between Axar Patel (69 not out, 93 balls, 10 fours and 2 sixes), who has had an excellent all-round match, and Karn Sharma.
