So far for India, the second test of the series at the P Sara Oval in Colombo seems to be following the template of the first with the visitors having squeezed out a decent first innings lead, worth 87 runs despite an excellent battling century from Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews.

India also had nearly 30 overs to negotiate of their second innings before the close of play, and lost first innings centurion KL Rahul for 2 in the very first over. Murali Vijay (39*) and Ajinkya Rahane (28*) saw out the danger as India finished the day at 70-1, an overall lead of 157 to take into Day 4 of this test match.

Sri Lanka resumed their second innings this morning with the score at 140-3 with two set batsmen out in the middle in Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews. Both men proved difficult to dislodge for India with them sharing a 127 run stand for the fourth wicket before Thirimanne was eventually dismissed by Ishant Sharma for 62.

Mathews went on to notch up 102 before becoming Stuart Binny's sole victim.

The Lankan lower-middle order for once didn't offer much resistance with Dinesh Chandimal making 11 and Jehan Mubarak chipping in with 22.

Amit Mishra was India's most successful bowler, taking 4-43 from 21 immaculate overs, and probably should have got a fifer with a poor decision from Umpire Rod Tucker going against him when he struck the pad of Rangana Herath, eventually snapped up by R Ashwin.

Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 306 to set up this test match intriguingly. India will look to bat for the bulk of Day 4 as they look to put the match beyond the Lankans before possibly having a crack at them late in the day as they look to level the series.
