Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger heaped praise on his side following their scintillating performance against Olympique Lyon in their Emirates Cup match, which saw the Gunners winning the game with a scoreline of 6-0!
The Frenchman was quoted telling reporters after the match: “It was a good, dynamic, collective performance where we could see that many players scored goals. Overall it’s in the continuity of what we did at the end of last season, and we’ve taken that form into pre-season as well.”
Wenger went on to say that it was good to see so many goals being scored by his side, which is what everybody expects from them. He went on to point out that the underlying principle behind the club’s performance in the game was that chances are created when all the good players play for each other. He added that the likes of Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere missed the game, despite which they performed so well, which only goes on to show that they have a good squad.
The Frenchman also said that one of the biggest advantages of pre-season games is that they are competitive and they provide youngsters with a chance to showcase their talents – something that the likes of Alex Iwobi, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Chuba Akpom did in the match. He pointed out that the players practice with the first team players, which in turn made it easy for them to blend in comfortably with them in the game.
