Wenger discusses where goals will come from this season

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has asked his players to work upon their ability to score goals next season.

The Frenchman was quoted telling reporters during his press conference: “We have enough goals in the squad. What we want is some more goals from some players who are not really strikers and that was our strength traditionally. Our offensive and creative players scored 10 to 12 goals, that’s what you need.”

Wenger said that while the north Londoners have plenty of forwards at their disposal, there are times when they are going through bad periods, which is when the other players need to step up and score in their place. He said that their target is to improve on the number of goals that they score, whilst also combining it with ‘good defensive efficiency’.

The Frenchman pointed out that that in the second half of the season, the side conceded only 13 goals in 19 matches. And citing the example of that defensive soundness, Wenger said that he can find a few more goals from within his current team itself and combine it with their defending. However, the boss also added that if the need arises, they may also try to sign players who may help them in that department.

The Gunners have been linked with potential moves for a number of world class forwards this summer. And going by Wenger’s comments, fans will certainly hope to see at least one of them plying his trade at the Emirates Stadium next season.
