Manchester United defeated Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes with a scoreline of 3-1 in their International Champions Cup exhibition match at the United States today.

The Red Devils, who fielded the same team as the one that started against Club America last week, got the lead in the 32nd minute when Mata scored from a sublime shot from just outside the D-box, following a pass from Ashley Young. The ball seemed to have grazed past the foot of Memphis Depay just before barging into the net, but it was eventually awarded to the Spaniard.

Only 4 minutes later, however, Depay did score his first goal in a Red Devils shirt, finishing coolly after making the most out of a costly defensive mistake by a San Jose defender, who was pressurized into making the blunder by Wayne Rooney.

The half seemed to be heading towards a great one for United before the hosts pulled a goal back through Fatai Alashe. Winger Shea Salinas did well to barge inside with the ball from along the goal line, beating Morgan Schneiderlin in the process, before passing it to Alashe. The 21 year old, meanwhile, made the most out of Phil Jones’ positioning mistake by slotting it home to make it 2-1 in the 42nd minute.

The second half then saw the Red Devils scoring another goal just close to the hour mark, when Andreas Pereira headed home from a Jesse Lingard cross to make it 3-1.

United now meet Spanish giants Barcelona in the next match of their pre-season tour on the 25th of July, before wrapping it up with a fixture against Paris Saint-Germain 5 days after that.
