Australian Davis Cup hero Lleyton Hewitt has led the team to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Kazakhstan this afternoon defeating Aleksandr Nedovyesov in three sets, and sealing Australia’s spot in the Davis Cup semifinals for the first time since 2006.

Earlier today, Sam Groth forged the way for Australia defeating Kazakhstan’s No.1 player Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3 7-6(6) 4-6 7-6(6) in the fourth rubber to keep the nation’s chances alive.

It is the first time since 1939 Australia has come back from 2-0 down to win a Davis Cup tie. The weekend also marks the first time Australia has had four different singles players contest a tie with five live rubbers.

Australia’s Davis Cup team will play the winner of Great Britain and France in the World Group semifinals in mid-September.
