Serena Williams to face Garbine Muguruza in Wimbledon Final

serena_williamsThe stage is set perfectly for legendary American Serena Williams to write another page in the history books as she will attempt to win the 21st Grand Slam title of her career and complete the 'Serena Slam' when she steps on Court on Saturday for the Wimbledon Ladies Singles Final.

In her semi-final encounter with 2004 champion Maria Sharapova today, Serena put in another dominating performance against the Russian diva, quelling her challenge in two very comfortable sets, 6-2, 6-4. Serena broke serve in the very first game of the match to make a statement on who is in-charge out on Centre Court, and a little over an hour later hammered home three aces as she served out the match without any drama.

Standing in Serena's path to a 6th Wimbledon title is 21 year old Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, who actually holds a win over Serena at last year's French Open. Muguruza was in dominating form for a set and a half against 2012 runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, opening up a 6-2, 3-1 lead before she tightened and lost the next 6 games in a row.

Fortunately for the young Spaniard she recovered her poise in time to open up a lead in the decider, and though she was involved in a tense battle with her nerves right at the very end, a poor decision by Radwanska to appeal a line call (possibly provoked by her team in the player's box) earned Muguruza a reprieve, handing her match point.

Muguruza took her chance with a crushing swinging forehand before collapsing on court in delight at reaching her maiden Grand Slam Final.

Final Scores:

[20] Garbine Muguruza d. [13] Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2 3-6 6-3

[1] Serena Williams d. [4] Maria Sharapova 6-2 6-4
