Djokovic, Federer and Murray through to Wimbledon semis; Gasquet stuns Wawrinka

It was quite nearly a perfect set in the semi-finals of Wimbledon with the top 4 players in the world inching closer to their pre-anointed places in the men's draw only for veteran Frenchman Richard Gasquet to dig deep and produce a shock win against the reigning French Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka, beating him in a thrilling contest 11-9 in the fifth set.

It was business as usual for the big three in the meantime with local favourite Andy Murray opening proceedings on Centre Court with a routine 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 win against Canadian Vasek Pospisil. Pospisil looked leggy almost as soon as the match got underway, having come through three 5 set matches already in the tournament, and the added pressure of playing on tennis' most famous court against the leading Brit was too much for him to handle today.

Awaiting Murray in the semi-finals is 7-time champion Roger Federer. The Swiss legend made quick work of Frenchman Giles Simon, prevailing in straight sets 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 in a little over an hour and a half on Court 1.

Djokovic followed Murray on Centre Court with the defending Wimbledon champion squaring off against the reigning US Open champion Marin Cilic. Djokovic had won each of their 12 previous meetings, and it wasn't going to be unlucky 13 for the world no.1 as he cruised through in straight sets, 4, 4 and 4.

Court 1 was then witness to the second Swiss - French contest of the day, and if the previous three matches had disappointed a bit in terms of their competitiveness, this one made up for it. Gasquet was the surprise winner of the opening set 6-4, but Wawrinka looked in control when he came back to win the next two 6-4, 6-3.

The Frenchman, seeded 21st, tied things up by winning the fourth set 6-4, and should have closed things out when he served for the match late in the fifth set. Wawrinka though broke back and the match made its way deeper into the set. Gasquet's moment finally came when he went up 0-40 on the Wawrinka serve in the 20th game. Wawrinka saved the first two match points, but a backhand hammered well long sealed the win for Gasquet as he advanced to a second Wimbledon semi-final, 8 years after his first appearance as a 21 year old.
