The singles main draws were made early Friday morning in Paris for Roland-Garros, the second Grand Slam event of the tennis season. Canadians Eugenie Bouchard and Vasek Pospisil earned direct entry while Milos Raonic was forced to withdraw from the tournament yesterday.

Seeded sixth in the women’s draw, Bouchard will face a stiff test out of the gate against world no. 54 Kristina Mladenovic of France. The two players met in 2013 at the National Bank Cup in Quebec City and the Canadian won 6-3, 6-2.

Bouchard, who put an end to her six match losing streak in Rome last week, finds herself in the same quarter with Czech Petra Kvitova. She also has the likes of 2006 French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova and Karolina Pliskova potentially in her path. Bouchard reached the semifinals in Paris last year before falling to eventual champion Maria Sharapova in three tough sets.

On the men’s side, Pospisil has had enough time to recover from the ankle injury he suffered in Madrid a few weeks ago in order to compete in his fourth Roland-Garros. He will meet Joao Sousa of Portugal in the first round. It will the be the first meeting between the two players who are ranked no. 51 and no. 50 on the ATP rankings, respectively. The Canadian will try and reach the second round of the French Open for the first time where he would likely face Andy Murray.

Main draw action gets underway Sunday in Paris.
