The Royal Challengers Bangalore booked a place in the play-offs of IPL Season 8, but missed out on a chance of making it to the top 2, and will hence go head to head against the Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator game next week. Their match against the Delhi Daredevils, which considering the gulf in quality between the two sides would have gone their way, was washed out midway through the contest after the Daredevils batted first and posted a challenging 187-5

Delhi's excellence with the bat was all thanks to their South African duo of Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy who struck contrasting half-centuries to help the Daredevils post a competitive total at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Sunday afternoon.

With the Royal Challengers Bangalore chasing a top 2 berth heading into the knock out stages of IPL Season 8, the hosts won the toss and decided to put the Delhi Daredevils in to bat with overcast skies threatening the second half of the contest.

The Daredevils got off to an excellent start with Quinton de Kock blazing his way to an excellent 69 from just 39 balls with the help of 9 boundaries and 3 sixes. De Kock was given good company by Indian youth international Shreyas Iyer, who contributed 20 in an opening stand worth 55 in a little more than 6 overs.

Iyer was replaced by Duminy, who was happy to take singles and get De Kock back on strike with the wicketkeeper batsman hitting top form. De Kock was finally dismissed by Chahal, and his exit put the skids on the Delhi scoring rate with Yuvraj Singh (11), Kedhar Jadhav (0) and Angelo Mathews (1) departing in quick succession.

Duminy made sure he batted through till the end, and accelerated in the last couple of overs, eventually finishing unbeaten on 67 from 43 balls. Suarabh Tiwary kept his skipper company, and continued his unbeaten run in the tournament to finish the season without an average, chipping in with 13 from 9 balls.

Only 7 balls of the Bangalore innings was possible before the weather intervened, and no further play was possible, resulting in a no-result.
