The Royal Challengers Bangalore won a crucial toss at the start of a rain-reduced 10-over a side contest at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, and it proved decisive as they secured a 7 wicket win against the Kolkata Knight Riders in a game which went all the way down to the wire.

Batting first after having been put in, KKR made a competitive 111-4 in their 10 overs with Andre Russell leading the way for his side with a 17-ball innings of 45. Robin Uthappa chipped in with 23, but took way too long to get his runs in a reduced game, and that proved decisive.

Mitchell Starc was the best of all the bowlers on display, taking 1-15 from his 2 overs to keep KKR in check.

RCB made a good start to their chase with skipper Virat Kohli leading the way with an impressive 34 from 20 balls. Chris Gayle chipped in with 21 from just 9 balls as the Bangalore franchise made sure they were always very much in control of the asking rate.

However, the loss of both openers and AB de Villiers for just 2 put a little bit of pressure on their suspect middle order. Mandeep Singh though came out and played a blinder, matching Russell's effort of 45 earlier in the evening, including two crucial sixes in the final over off Russell himself to take his side to a richly deserved win.

The victory takes RCB ahead of KKR in the points table, into third place, and gives them a fighting chance of making the knock-out rounds this season.
