Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders bounced back from being 60-5 in their run chase to beat the Kings XI Punjab in Pune thanks to a blistering innings of 66 from just 36 balls by Andre Russell.

The Kings XI Punjab were sent in to bat on losing the toss and struggled to 155-9 in their 20 overs with skipper George Bailey top scoring for his side with a crucial 60 from 45 balls after his team had slid to 27-3.

Bailey shared in a 63 run partnership with Glenn Maxwell, who chipped in with 33 from 26 balls. However, the duo got little support from the rest of their teammates and finished at least 20 runs short of what would have been a competitive score.

Sandeep Sharma sparked the Kings XI fans to life with 4 early wickets to reduce KKR to 60-5 in the 8th over, with allrounder Thisara Perera getting the other wicket.

That brought Yusuf Pathan to the crease alongside Andre Russell and the duo showed great endeavour to stitch together a 95-run partnership for the sixth wicket to steer their side to a win.

While Pathan kept his end up, making a patient 28 from 24 balls, Russell exploded to good effect hammering 9 boundaries and 2 sixes to help his side to an unlikely victory.

Russell fell just before the game was wrapped up, but it mattered little as KKR cruised over the finish line with 13 balls to spare.
