22 year old Gursimran ‘Sim’ Bhullar is set to become the first player of Indian descent to make it to a National Basketball Association (NBA) side as a player. According to reports revealed by Antonio Gonzalez of The Associated Press, the 7'5", 360-pound giant is set to be signed by the Sacramento Kings for a 10-day period.

Gonzalez tweeted: ‘Sim Bhullar will become the NBA's first player of Indian descent when he joins the Sacramento Kings on a 10-day deal Thursday, source says.’

Meanwhile, Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, who is also of Indian origin, had said in August that the player "represents one of many that will emerge from that region as the game continues to garner more attention and generate ever-increasing passion among a new generation of Indian fans."

The youngster, who holds Canadian citizenship, moves to the California-based side from NBA Development League side Reno Bighorns.

Meanwhile, this will not be the first time that the player will be associated with the Kings. Bhullar joined the side in August 2014, for their training camp, but was waived away by them in October, before being signed by the Bighorns as an affiliate player. He averaged 10.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.8 blocks a game at Reno.

The youngster is not very agile on the court, but he has an imposing presence and can prove to be immensely valuable in defence. Additionally, he has worked a lot on his conditioning, and may go on to become a star player on the world basketball circuit if he progresses as expected.
