Real Madrid full back Fabio Coentrao, who has been believed to be on the wishlist of Manchester United for quite a while now, has admitted that it would be an honour for him to play for the Red Devils.

The 27 year old Los Blancos reject was quoted telling Portuguese newspaper O Jogo: "I already showed that interest in playing there (at Manchester United). It's one of the best clubs in the world, a club that I admire a lot. It would be an honour to play there."

Coentrao has gone out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu in recent seasons, with manager Carlo Ancelotti providing him with little first team chances. This season, the player has made just 14 appearances for his side, a number of them from the bench, whilst clocking just 774 minutes of game time.

A traditional left back, the Portuguese ace is also adept at playing in the left midfield or the defensive midfield. Should the Red Devils sign him, he would provide adequate cover for Luke Shaw and Daley Blind at the club, whilst providing manager Louis van Gaal with an experienced option at his disposal.

However, the Dutchman may not be able to provide Coentrao with assurances of regular game time at Old Trafford, which is why the player may have his doubts over the prospect of a move to Old Trafford. Also, Coentrao is currently tied to the reigning European champions until June 2019, which means they will look to pocket a substantial transfer fee from his sale.
