Liverpool enter race for Chelsea midfielder

Liverpool are understood to have joined the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Oscar, according to reports in The Metro.

The Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is understood to be viewing his side’s midfield as one of the key areas for the club to invest in, and has shortlisted the highly rated Brazilian as one of his most important targets.

Since his move to Stamford Bridge in 2012, Oscar has been one of the most important players in the Blues squad. This season too, the youngster has been an important contributor for the side, contributing with 15 goals in 37 appearances.

It is believed that the west Londoners manager Jose Mourinho rates the player pretty highly. However, despite that, Oscar is understood to have become discontented with his stay at Chelsea, owing to the fact that he isn’t getting enough space to play according to his comfort.

Meanwhile, Liverpool may not be able to sign the Brazilian comfortably. The first reason is that Mourinho knows how value the Brazilian is for his side, and he will not be ready to part ways with him, unless there is a good replacement available. Secondly, the Blues will look to pocket in excess of at least £25m from the sale of the player, should they decide to sell him at all. Thirdly, the west Londoners will not be open to the idea of selling Oscar to one of their direct rivals. And lastly, the player also has the likes of Atletico Madrid and Juventus hot on his trail, and the Reds will have to tussle with them in the race for him.
