West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has said that it is necessary for the players to get a break in the midst of a hectic schedule, so as to get rest physically and mentally, and make them perform better. The Hammers have a comfortable fixture list for the rest of the season, with a relaxed schedule till the end of the season in May, and Allardyce hoped that it would help his team win more game in their last 10 matches of this campaign. Additionally, the boss also pointed out that a break during the New Year reduces the chance of injuries.

Big Sam was quoted telling reporters during the press conference ahead of his side’s Premier League fixture against Arsenal: “Hopefully the little bit of rest physically and mentally will help us win more games in the last ten. I've been doing it for ten years and the stats say we should have a break as it reduces the risk of injuries in the New Year.”

The Premier League is one of the most taxing leagues during the New Year, as it involves continuous matches with very short breaks. Many managers have called for a relaxation for the period, so as to prevent any uncalled-for injuries to players and also help them maintain a good level of performance. However, the Football Association is yet to take any steps to improving the conditions for the period.
