Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that winger Angel Di Maria committed a mistake by pulling the referee during their FA Cup quarter final match against Arsenal, which eventually ended 2-1 in the favour of the Gunners. The Argentine was booked for an alleged dive by referee Michael Oliver, and during his protests, he pulled his shirt from behind, which then led to his sending off.

LvG feels that Di Maria has no excuses to make for his act and that what he did is absolutely forbidden in every country.

The Dutchman was quoted telling reporters after the match: "I've already spoken with him, he knows my opinion but also I have to see on the video. I think he's touched the referee and that's forbidden in every country, so he has no excuses."

Di Maria’s sending off heaped extra pressure on the Red Devils, who were already trailing 2-1 in the game. They eventually couldn’t recover and slumped to a defeat against their rivals at their home ground, which led to their ousting from the FA Cup.

Realistically speaking, the former English champions have no chance of winning any trophy this season.
