Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said that his side gave the game away during their FA Cup quarter final tie against Arsenal, which resulted in a 2-1 home defeat for them.

The Dutchman was quoted telling reporters after the match: "I've said in the dressing room we gave [the game] away by ourselves and that is the biggest disappointment. In the second half, we had the first chance also then we gave it away again."

Van Gaal said that it was not Arsenal who defeated them; rather, they lost the game due to their own errors, which was very disappointing for them. He said that the side wanted to progress to the semi-finals of the competition, and that they were playing the match to win it.

The Dutchman also said that although he had said before that a place in the top 4 would be a priority for them, it is also true that they wish to win titles, which will not be possible this season anymore.

The Red Devils are currently 4th in the Premier League table with 53 points from 28 games, 10 points adrift of leaders Chelsea, who have played a match less. Thus, the side have next to negligible chance of winning any silverware this season, with the FA Cup having been their last resort for the same.
