Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that defender Martin Skrtel is fine and that he could have played on in the game during his side’s FA Cup quarter final clash against Blackburn Rovers. The boss said that he was substituted only because the side were adhering to the advice of the medical team and the experts.

The Northern Irishman was quoted telling reporters: "Martin Skrtel is fine. He could have played on but you have to listen to the medical team and the experts and he is fine in the changing room. He fell heavily so there was a feeling he could have been knocked out or concussed but I'll leave that to the medical experts."

Skrtel fell awkwardly after being involved in an aerial tussle with Rudy Gestede of Blackburn in the second minute of the game. He seemed to have been knocked out for a while, and was attended to by the medical team for a long time before being taken off. Kolo Toure came on to replace the player.

Meanwhile, the Reds did miss the aerial presence and defensive prowess of Skrtel during the match. Gestede was especially effective for the visitors and Skrtel would have been the ideal player to tackle him and keep him in check during the match.
