Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere is unlikely to play a part in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Monaco on Wednesday.

The Frenchman was quoted telling reporters: "I don't think he will be involved [against Monaco], at the weekend [against Everton], certainly."

Wenger also revealed that while the player did miss the training session yesterday, he has ‘not suffered a relapse’.

Wilshere has remained out of action due to an ankle injury, with the Englishman last playing a part for his side in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in November. And although he is believed to have recuperated from the same, and has been participating in training sessions with the team, he is still not match fit.

Wilshere’s absence means that the manager may decide to continue with his usual pack of midfielders. And his unavailability will not be much of a problem for his side either, with the team having been in good form recently despite him not playing a role for them in the last few months.
