Most of us cricket fans surely remember Steve Harmison...yeah THAT bowler from England who was the star and orchestrator of England’s famous Ashes series win over Australia in 2005. According to latest reports in BBC Sport, Harmison has seemingly decided to part ways with cricket, and has decided to take up the role of a football manager!

Oh wait...before you become too optimistic – the 36 year old will be managing Northern League Division One side Ashington. And for those who don’t know, the league we are talking about is the ninth tier in the English football pyramid.

It has also been reported that head coach Ian Skinner and Lee Anderson will be assisting Harmison in his new role. The first match for the trio will be held on Tuesday when they visit Bishop Auckland with their side.

Ashington chairman and local MP Ian Lavery was quoted telling reporters, following the appointment: "All three have a wealth of experience in the sporting world and together can build on the success Ashington Football Club have had since moving to Woodhorn Lane."

Harmison’s interest in the club is not a sudden one, by the way. The 36 year old played for the club when he was just a teenager. Additionally, his brother James once captained the club, and even his father Jimmy was once a player and an assistant manager for the side.

And before we forget... BEWARE John Carver! Steve is a lifelong Newcastle United supporter!
