The Kolkata Knight Riders stretched their winning run to 12 matches as they carved out a narrow 3 wicket win over a competitive Perth Scorchers side in Hyderabad on Wednesday night. As a result of their win, KKR are now guaranteed a semi-final berth in the competition as the Indian Premier League champions look for their second trophy of what has been an incredible season.

Batting first on winning the toss, Perth posted an under par 151-7 with all of their wickets following to the KKR spinners with Sunil Narine taking 4-31, while Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with 3-23. KKR bowled 16 overs of spin with Yusuf Pathan taking the new ball with Jacques Kallis and doing rather well, conceding less than 6 runs per over from his 4 overs.

Adam Voges was the star performer for Perth as he batted through the innings to post 71 from 52 balls with 8 boundaries and 1 six. Unfortunately for the Australian side that late innings spurt necessary to take them to a winning target never arrived, but they did make a real contest of the game, taking it down to the final over.

Kolkata's chase was a stuttering effort with wickets falling at regular intervals. KKR were in trouble early, losing Gautam Gambir (2) and Jacques Kallis (6) inside the first 3 overs. From 13-2 they slid to 37-3 when Robin Uthappa was caught behind for 23 off Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Manish Pandey (24), Yusuf Pathan (21) and Ryan ten Doeschate (15) all made handy contributions, but Kolkata were never really in control of the run chase till Suryakumar Yadav arrived and smashed his side to victory. The ultra reliable lower order batsman smashed an unbeaten 43 from 19 balls including 4 sixes to sneak Kolkata over the line, but he needed some late assistance from Piyush Chawla, whose mishit 4 took KKR to victory with 2 balls to spare.
