Indian Premier League champions Kolkata Knight Riders have stretched their winning streak to 11 straight games after beating the Pakistani champions Lahore Lions by 4 wickets in a tight finish in Hyderabad.

Having been put into bat, the Lahore Lions posted an under par 151-7, having failed to capitalize on an excellent start as the KKR spinners spun a web around their batsmen in the middle overs. Ahmed Shehzad led the way for the Pakistani champions, smashing 59 from just 41 balls, sharing a 50 run partnership with Nasir Jamshed (10) in a little over 6 overs before Kolkata stormed back into the contest.

After Piyush Chawla (1-35) and Kuldeep Yadav (1-21) nabbed some early wickets, Sunil Narine proved to be unplayable for the Lions as he picked up 3 wickets for just 9 runs in his 4 overs, killing any momentum that Lahore had built up. A late flourish from Umar Akmal, who made 40 from 24 balls helped Lahore post a respectable score.

Kolkata looked well on course to an easy win as they added an even 100 for the opening wicket before Robin Uthappa fell for 46 from 34 balls. His opening partner Gautam Gambhir made a solid 60 from 47 balls to hold the innings together, but his dismissal in the 15th over started a slide, leaving some fans worried about the final outcome before Suryakumar Yadav came out and made a late 14 from 5 balls to see his side over the line.

The Knight Riders are in action again on Wednesday when they take on the Perth Scorchers, while Lahore play on Thursday against the other IPL team in their group, the Chennai Super Kings.
