The Kings XI Punjab took a giant leap towards booking a spot for themselves in the knockout stages of the Champions League T20 with a hard earned win against a very competitive Barbados Trident side which excelled with the bat, posting 174-6 in their 20 overs.

Having been put into bat, the team from the West Indies stormed out of the gates like a house on fire with their top order scoring at better than 10 an over in the powerplay. Parwinder Awana struck a crucial double blow for the Punjab side when he picked up two wickets in the 6th over to slow down the assault dismissing both Barbados openers. Dilshan Munaweera in particular had been exceptional, smashing 50 from just 26 balls before becoming Awana's second victim on the last ball of the powerplay.

An unbeaten 60 from 42 balls from Raymon Reifer was the cornerstone of Barbados' effort as they managed to post a competitive 174-6 with Thisara Perera once again doing an excellent job with the ball for his team, taking 3-15 from his 3 overs to slow the Barbados charge.

Kings XI Punjab enjoyed their fair share of luck at the start of their innings with Manan Vohra being dropped twice before falling for a brisk 27 from 19 balls, but the youngster had done the early damage, ensuring Punjab had also made the most of the powerplay.

Virender Sehwag (31 from 25 balls) kept the scoreboard ticking from one end while Saha and Maxwell came and went having contributed 14 and 16 respectively. Sehwag's own dismissal, leg before to Jeevan Mendis left Punjab in a spot of bother at 103-4 and George Bailey making 7 of 11 before also falling victim to Mendis meant that Punjab had a run chase on their hands towards the fag end of their innings.

However, Akshar Patel, who smashed 19 runs in one Ravi Rampaul over, the penultimate one of the innings, ensured that Punjab only had 5 to get from the last over, and despite some minor hiccups, a 6 from David Miller, who finished unbeaten on 46 saw Kings XI over the line with 2 balls to spare.

The Kings XI Punjab have a few days off before they take on Northern Districts in their next outing on Friday in Mohali with the Barbados Tridents also in action on the same day against the Cape Cobras.
