Australia A are 2-180 at stumps and trail by 153 runs after South Africa A were bowled out for 333 on day three of their four-day match at Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville.

After it was announced that Phil Hughes had received the call-up for Australia’s Tour of Zimbabwe, the Australia A captain notched up an unbeaten 71* runs. Hughes and South Australian teammate Tom Cooper (57) worked well together to put on a 120-run partnership before Cooper was caught behind off the bowling of Simon Harmer (1-55). Hughes and Callum Ferguson (17*) remained unbeaten at the crease at the end of the day’s play, with only one day remaining in the match.

South Africa A earlier resumed on 5-220, having lost a full day’s play to rain on Friday.  Clint McKay (3-52) maintained his economical form with the ball and was rewarded for his efforts, picking up three wickets for the innings. Farhaan Behardien (107) reached his century but was the last wicket to fall after he pulled a shot straight to Matthew Wade at deep square leg just before lunch.
