The FIFA Appeal Committee today rejected the appeals lodged by both Uruguayan and Liverpool superstar Luis Suárez and the Uruguayan FA, and to confirm the decision rendered by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on 25 June 2014 in its entirety. The terms of the decision taken by the FIFA Appeal Committee were communicated to the player and the Uruguayan FA today.

The decision, however, is not yet final and binding, i.e. an appeal to the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) is still possible by the player and/or the Uruguayan FA, subject to certain conditions.

Luis Suarez was handed a 4-month suspension a couple of weeks back for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during a match between Uruguay and Italy during the FIFA World Cup. This is the third time he has committed such an offence on a football field and is unlikely to find favour with CAS.

Suarez's biting offences are not affecting his popularity with the Liverpool star poised to make a move to Spanish giants Barcelona in the coming weeks.
