The Indian bowlers had a rough day with the ball as Leicestershire posted 349-5 in 62 overs in response to India’s first innings total of 333-4 declared, with Angus Robson and Greg Smith hammering centuries. The day’s play was marred by scattered spells of rain, though that didn’t stop Leicestershire from increasing India’s bowling woes as Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma proved to be expensive.

Kumar began well for the Indians with a testing spell where he almost dismissed Angus Robson. Pankaj Singh too bowled well from his end as he picked up the wicket of Mathew Boyce with the score on 30.

Greg Smith then joined Robson in the middle as the duo flayed the Indian bowlers around the park as Ishant Sharma looked all over the place as he went for 41 runs in his first four overs. Angus Robson, younger brother of England opener Sam Robson, registered an impressive ton as he and Smith put on 221 for the second wicket despite rain halting play in breaks.

Smith then reached his hundred with consecutive sixes at slightly less than run-a-ball as the two batsmen soon retired out with the score on 249-3, bringing some relief to the Indian bowlers. Robson had scored 126 while Smith has smashed 101.

Dan Redfern, in the company of Michael Thornely, powered a 55-ball 58 as he took his side past the 300-run mark. Ishant Sharma then returned from his poor spell early on to strike twice as he dismissed Redfern, following which he sent Tom Wells back for nought, thus leaving the Leics at 333-5.

Rain arrived once again in the final session after Leicestershire took the lead and thus the officials and the two captains decided to call it a day with the match being drawn.
