Netherlands managed to continue their superiority in Group B during this World Cup after a tight 2-0 win over exciting counterparts Chile. The Oranje had already secured their first knockout round place after demolishing Spain and beating Australia. Chile were also through to the round of 16 with the match being a battle for first place in the group. With the Arena De Sao Paulo providing a perfect setup for this highly anticipated encounter, the match did not fail to impress.

The match started at a very high intensity with Netherlands using all their physicality and class to keep hold of the ball with Chile utilising their pace to counter. Both teams seemed to be nullifying each other with their tactical game plans with the half time scoreline of 0-0 showing how much a win meant to them.

The second half started with the same tentativeness with both teams reluctant to make a mistake or take risks. Louis Van Gaal proved his top Manager credentials with two extremely effective substitutions. The introduction of Leroy Fer in the 75th minute proved to be a masterclass as the Norwich midfielder smashed in a bullet header past the hapless Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo from a sumptuous cross provided by Daryl Janmaat.

Arjen Robben turned on the heat in the 90th minute after Nigel De Jong cleared the ball into the opposition half. Robben was one on one with the last defender and there was always going to be the only one outcome. After skinning the defender for pace, Robben provided an inch perfect cross to another sub Memphis Depay for the youngster to tap in from all but a handful of yards.

The result means that Netherlands will finish top of Group B and take on the Group A runners-up in the next round, while Chile will take on the group winners. As things stand at present, those could well be Brazil and Mexico respectively, though Croatia will hope to have some say on proceedings when they take on the Mexicans later tonight.
