Kings XI Punjab won their second consecutive match of the IPL 2014 by beating the Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets at Sharjah, courtesy a couple of blitzkriegs from Glenn Maxwell (89 off 45) and David Miller (51* off 19).

Kings XI won the toss and put Rajasthan into bat in what was a small ground for big hitters from either side. Despite the slow nature of the pitch, big runs were expected, given the power hitting talent on show for the day.

The eventual script didn’t disappoint as Rajasthan got to an excellent 191/5 in their 20 overs with crucial contributions from Sanju Samson 52(34), Shane Watson 50 (29) and Steve Smith 27*(15).

The Kings XI chase did not get off to the best of starts with Virender Sehwag and Wriddhiman Saha going early but their big hitting  foreigner batsmen did the trick again for the men in red.

Glenn Maxwell showed why he is arguably the most feared batsman in T20 cricket, with another stupendous and audacious display of batting, making 89 off just 45 balls. Although Rajasthan were still in the game for long periods courtesy a slow 38-ball 40* from Cheteshwar Pujara, David Miller’s murderous 51 off 19 balls to follow up Maxwell’s knock made it easy sailing for the men in red eventually.

Punjab won with 8 balls to spare in the innings, and there were not many bowlers on either side that went home without embarrassing figures.
