The Royal Challengers Bangalore moved to the top of the IPL 2014 standings with a comfortable 7 wicket win against defending champions Mumbai Indians, who had yet another poor outing with the bat today.

Having been put into bat, Mumbai stuttered to a poor 115-9 in their 20 overs with Ambati Rayudu top scoring with a patient 35 from 37 balls. Mumbai's top order all got starts, but were again painstakingly slow with their run getting and young leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal produced yet another memorable spell for RCB, taking the key wickets of Rohit Sharma (2) and Kieron Pollard (3) after Albie Morkel and Varun Aaron had removed the two Mumbai openers.

Mitchell Starc removed Rayudu (35) and Corey Anderson (18) off consecutive deliveries in the 17th over, and the required burst towards the end of the innings never really came.

Chasing a paltry total of 116 to win, RCB were in trouble early on themselves, collapsing to 17-3 with Zaheer Khan removing Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh for ducks, but Parthiv Patel (57* from 45 balls) and AB de Villiers (45* from 48) took their team to an easy win sharing in a 99-run unbeaten stand for the 4th wicket.

Bangalore got to their target with 15 balls to spare, and that will do their net run rate some good and might prove crucial in the long run. Up next for Virat Kohli's team are the Kolkata Knight Riders at Sharjah on Thursday. Mumbai meanwhile have an even longer break before they take on the Chennai Super Kings on Friday in Dubai.
