Australia have beaten Bangladesh by seven wickets with 15 balls to spare in a dead rubber in Dhaka today in the penultimate match of the ICC World Twenty20 Group Stages.

George Bailey lost the toss and was sent into the field with Bangladesh posting 153 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. Nathan Coulter-Nile was the best of the Aussie bowlers picking up two wickets. Former Bangladesh skipper and star allrounder Shakib Al Hasan finally found his scoring touch in this match and smashed a crisp 66 from 52 balls to set Bangladesh on their way. Shakib shared in a 112 run stand for the third wicket with current skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, who made 47 from 36.

In response, Australia’s opening pair of David Warner and Aaron Finch put on a 98-run partnership before Warner was bowled by Al-Amin Hossain for 48. Finch’s man of the match performance of 71 runs set the Australian up for victory with Cameron White (18) and George Bailey (11) seeing Australia home comfortably in the 18th over.

Both teams were already out of the reckoning in the tournament and were effectively fighting for the wooden spoon in their group.
