Chelsea to sacrifice Lukaku to land bigger fish

Chelsea are reportedly ready to sell Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku in order to finance a move for Atletico’s Diego Costa or Monaco’s Radamel Falcao, according to the Daily Star. The 20 year old is currently on loan at Everton and has enjoyed a successful season till date. Lukaku has scored nine goals and assisted six in 21 Premier League appearances.

Despite boasting a better goals tally than any Chelsea player barring Eden Hazard, Blues boss Jose Mourinho is less than convinced by the youngster’s qualities and looks set to offload him in the summer. The primary objective behind Lukaku’s sale seems to be the proposed purchase of Radamel Falcao or Diego Costa. It is a well known fact that Mourinho is on the hunt for a lethal frontman, and with Luis Suarez most likely getting Champions League football next season and Edinson Cavani doing his best to mobilize the PSG machine, the Colombian and the Spaniard seem to be the only two choices available.

The 27 year old ex-Atletico man Radamel Falcao is rumoured to be disillusioned with life in France and may well be ready to leave if the right offer comes along. If Chelsea were to sign the South American, they would almost surely be required to break their current record of 50 million pounds which they paid to Liverpool for Fernando Torres. That princely a sum for a player who just recently sustained a serious knee injury may be too steep for the Blues and they may be forced to look elsewhere. Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa is another name that has been continually linked with the London club and the 32 million pound release clause on his current contract would make him a much better option.

Mourinho’s treatment of young Romelu Lukaku seems a bit too harsh especially when you consider that the six foot three inch battering ram has scored a total of 26 goals in 53 appearances over the past two seasons at West Brom and Everton. The young talent was signed from Belgian club Anderlecht amongst tremendous fanfare and was billed as the next Drogba, but his imminent departure from Stamford Bridge is a worrying indication that Chelsea may not be the right place to go if you are a fledgling young footballer.
