Mega-rich French club AS Monaco seems to be on the verge of having acquired another accomplished attacking player in its rank in the form of Angel di Maria.

Di Maria, who has been reported as being unsettled in Real Madrid colours after the world record signing of Gareth Bale, was being targeted by English Champions Manchester United and current Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Di Maria though has other ideas, ones which are far more lucrative than the English sides are willing to offer, as he set his sights on a potential move to the Principality in the January transfer window. Reports have emerged that negotiations have already begun, led by Di Maria’s agent Jorge Mendes. The same Mendes who have a host of international stars in his roster as clients. Cristiano Ronaldo, Jose Mourinho, Joao Moutinho, James Martinez, Radamel Falcao, Ricardo Carvalho to name a few.

It is noteworthy to mention that Mendes was the one who engineered Falcao, Moutinho, Rodriguez and Carvalho’s transfers to Monaco and noting his rate of success, it may be correct to conclude that Manchester United have lost yet another transfer target.

This news may come as a blow for David Moyes after several of his intended targets rejected moves to the club and the fans might start questioning Moyes’ ability to attract top players.

Since moving to Spain in June 2010 for a fee of 25 million pounds, Di Maria has been one of the more consistent performer for the club, making 155 appearances with 29 goals and 55 assists. Real Madrid, under Carlo Ancelotti, have already allowed Mesut Ozil to leave the club and allowing di Maria to join Monaco, shows the level of confidence the Italian manager has in new signings Gareth Bale and Isco.

As for Monaco, they are in 3rd place in Ligue 1, vying for a spot in the Champions League next season and would welcome the attacking talent of Angel Di Maria with open arms.
