Milos Raonic advanced to the quarter-finals for the second straight year at the Thailand Open in Bangkok, an ATP World Tour 250 event. As the tournament’s third seed, Raonic received an opening round bye and began his title campaign with a 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4 win over Australia’s Marinko Matosevic in round two.  Raonic hit 21 aces in the victory and avenges the loss he suffered at the hands of Matosevic during the summer hard court season in Washington.

In the final eight on Friday, Raonic will face sixth-seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in what will be his fourth quarter-final of the season. The 22-year-old Canadian defeated Lopez in four sets en route to reaching the Round of 16 at the U.S. Open last month.

Over in Tokyo, in her first WTA Premier 5 quarter-final, Eugenie Bouchard played seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams of the United States tough for over three hours on Thursday at the Toray Pan Pacific Open before falling 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3.

With her run to the quarter-finals, Bouchard will make her debut in the Top 40 on next week’s WTA rankings at just 19 years of age and will become the top-ranked teenager on Tour.
