Australia has defeated England by 39 runs in the first T20 International played tonight at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton thanks to a record 156 to opener Aaron Finch. Finch set Australia’s innings ablaze with a devastating knock of 156 from just 63 balls, including 11 fours and 14 towering sixes, setting up Australia’s huge total of 248-6. Shane Watson chipped in with 37, while Shaun Marsh made 28.

In reply, England pushed hard but fell 39 short to be 209-6 after their 20 overs. Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood took two wickets each.

Michael Lumb had given England a bit of start, smashing 22 from just 11 balls before Johnson trapped him leg before. Wickets fell in a heap then for England as they slipped from 33 for no loss to 42 for 4.

An unbeaten 90 from 49 balls from Jose Root, a knock which included 13 boundaries gave England hope, while Ravi Bopara (45) and Joss Buttler (27) chipped in at the end, but Finch's incredible effort earlier in the evening proved to be too much as Australia cruised to a comfortable win.
