Arsenal target Geoffrey Kondogbia will be leaving the club to seek pastures anew, his club Sevilla has officially confirmed.

A statement on the club’s website read: “Geoffrey Kondogbia is already history at Sevilla FC. The French international has officially informed the club that he will unilaterally rescind his contract.”

The Frenchman has opted to buy out the remainder of his 4 year contract rather than ask clubs to meet his release clause of 17.2 million pounds, and will be reimbursed by the club that is buying him.

There was speculation earlier that the young starlet might move to Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants instead opted to sign Basque midfielder Asier Illaramendi to bring that rumour to a premature end.

The 20 year old has however caught the eye of Arsene Wenger and the Frenchman is hoping the youngster will move to the Emirates to bolster his midfield. Arsenal is in dire need of a defensive midfielder and Kondogbia could be the right man to solve their midfield troubles.

But nouveau riche, newly promoted Ligue 1 side AS Monaco are more than confident of beating the Gunners’ to Kondogbia as the player is widely expected to join the French club.

Kondogbia first attracted attention from other clubs with his dynamic midfield performances for Sevilla and further showed a glimpse of his potential in France’s triumphant U-20 World Cup campaign forming a devastating midfield partnership with Paul Pogba, even chipping in with a couple of goals.

The player is known for his tireless displays in the middle of the park and his strengths lie in strong tacking and assured defensive displays.
