Brazilian side Flamengo are close to wrapping up a move for Arsenal defender Andre Santos. The 30 year old had openly declared his disappointment at making a return to the Emirates, following a 4 month loan spell at Gremio. However, media reports suggest that the left back is back in Brazil for his medical at Flamengo and will ink a contract with the Mengão today.

Flamengo's Director of Football Paulo Pelaipe shared in an interview with UOL, "The Arsenal document we were waiting has come. Everything is agreed between the player and the club. We are just waiting for the document that authorises the transfer to announce him, it should come by Friday. Andre Santos is already at the club's hotel for the medical."

Santos himself expressed his delight at the move, telling Globo Esporte, "The feeling couldn't be better, as I am very happy with the achievement of playing for a great club like Flamengo. I feel like a winner. I hope to make history here, be champions and help Flamengo win many games and titles."

Santos signed a four-year deal with Arsenal in 2011, joining the Gunners from Turkish side Fenerbahce. However, after some high profile errors both on and off the field, he was sent on loan to Brazilian side Gremio after the Gunners acquired Nacho Monreal as a replacement.

The 30 year old was reported by the media as having indicated some time ago that his heart was set away on a move away from Arsenal and that he was disappointed to return to North London. Gremio were themselves keen to keep him at the side but his wages seemed too high for the club and they were forced to let go of him.

It is as yet unclear whether Arsenal have released the player from his contract so that they can get his wages off their books or whether they will actually earn something from the player's sale.
