Clement Grenier has continued to keep the Arsenal scouts in suspense after his agent announced that the midfielder would decide his future only after getting some answers from his current club Olympique Lyonnais.
Grenier is learnt to have thoroughly impressed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has made a strong case for bringing the playmaker to the Emirates Stadium, even going as far as reportedly offering beleaguered midfielder Gervinho in exchange.
Grenier’s father had earlier expressed his view that he believes his son will continue his stay at Lyon, while his agent Frederic Guerra revealed that the 22 year old is still waiting to hear back from club president Jean-Michel Aulas and coach Remi Garde who are currently on vacation, “To choose is to give up. Clement has told Jean-Michel Aulas and Remi Garde a number of things, and is waiting for answers. We're supposed to meet each other when he gets back from holiday.”
Acknowledging the difficulty of the decision, Guerra also added, “Things are going the way that Clement is perhaps going to stay, but the reverse is possible too. There's nothing definite, there are still meetings to be held. A career choice is not something to be left to chance. Are you really going to earn a year in your career by leaving straightaway? It's really a major headache."
Grenier, a product of Lyon’s youth system has proved to be a vital part of Garde’s team scoring 7 times and making 9 goals in 32 games this season. L'Equipe had earlier claimed that Clement would continue his stay at the Stade de Gerland, without extending his contract. Among all the speculation, veteran club goalkeeper Remy Vercoutre, who has also been at Lyon for over a decade, hoped that the club’s latest young sensation wouldn’t depart early too, going on record to say, "I really hope he stays at OL He has his head on his shoulders, he's got good people around him. Whichever decision he makes, it will have been well thought through."
The final decision will lie with Gernier himself, with the onus being on the Gunners to entice him away from Ligue 1 and to the Premier League.
