Qatar Investment Authority continue to set the European football stage on fire by throwing millions of dollars into the beautiful game. The Doha-based owners of Paris Saint-Germain have made an incredible offer for Wayne Rooney, which even the humblest and noblest of players just would not turn their back to, so it is probably safe to say Au Revoir Monsieur Rooney.
According to The Daily Express, the French side have the following in store for the Manchester United forward – a 30 million pound offer, coupled with a weekly wage of 300,000 pounds post tax for the next four years. And if that wasn’t enough, the Ligue 1 Champions are also willing to let Rooney define any other terms he wants related to image rights, endorsements, etc. This in turn could spell uneasiness for clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal, all of whom have been looking to land in the forward.
Rooney, who was speculated to be moving from Greater Manchester after a troubling season, had a meeting lined up in the coming week with incoming manager David Moyes to decide upon his United future. But with PSG’s stunning offer, his future at Old Trafford might begin to show signs of haziness. The Scot must have had a few things going on in his mind about Rooney playing a key role in his squad, but after such a tempting offer he might be forced to explore other options.
The French side already have three quality strikers – Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Kevin Gameiro – gracing their squad. While Lavezzi plays as a secondary striker, Gameiro has been used mostly as a substitute for the club (22 out of 30 appearances), with average performances the last season. Rooney’s arrival could see the Englishman lining up in front alongside Ibra, surely a superb strike-force by any standards.
Meanwhile, United fans would however try finding solace in the fact that Rooney’s representatives have repudiated any contacts with PSG; hardly an adequately comfortable piece of news in the wake of such a juicy offer.
