Thursday was another rain affected day at the 2013 French Open. Amongst the top 10 seeds only world no.1 Novak Djokovic was able to take to court and he finished off his match against Guido Pella 6-2, 6-0, 6-2 in 86 minutes. Matches featuring Rafael Nadal, Richard Gasquet and Tommy Haas amongst a host of others were postponed to Friday.

Young upcoming players like 13th seed Kei Nishikori and 26th seed Grigor Dimitrov also had good days on the rain affected red clay of Paris with both progressing to the third round of the French Open.

The match of the day came from flashy Frenchman and 24th seed Benoit Paire. The charismatic player put on a great show for his home crowd and painted the court with some amazing ground strokes that saw him hit 54 winners to progress into the round of 32 with a straight sets victory over Lukasz Kubot 7-6(2), 6-2, 6-4 coming back from 0-3 and two breaks of serve down in the final set .

Just like in his 1st round match, Djokovic had to wait for a couple of hours before he got out on court. But once he arrived to play his second round match, he ensured that he did not have to spend any more time than was unnecessary by totally dominating his unheralded opponent.

The Serb hit 29 winners, won 7 out of 16 break points over the course of the match. Although he made 26 unforced errors to go with these impressive statistics, the Serb will not be worried as he conceded only 4 games and served up a bagel going on a run of 11 straight games in the process and that is sure to boost his confidence.

"It's like deja vu from two days ago, you know, coming in and out and warming up five times, " said Djokovic."But it is the way it is, it's weather. You can't affect the nature. I'm just glad that I finished the match today."

He moves into the 3rd round where he will face the 26th seed Grigor Dimitrov who has been making waves across the tennis circuit ever since he beat the world no.1 in Madrid. The 22 year old was untroubled in the 1st and 3rd sets by Poland’s Lukas Pouille but was taken to the distance in the second before he won it in the tie break needing an hour and 48 minutes for the 6-1, 7-6(4) 6-1 victory.

"I feel I'm playing good," said Dimitrov. "I know I can bring a bit more steam into the game. I think I might need that the next round. So I'm actually really looking forward to the next round. Hopefully it's going to bring out the best out in me.

Of his 3rd round match, Djokovic said, ”He pushed [Rafael] Nadal to a tough three sets in Monaco. He beat me in Madrid. "It's going to be a tough one for both of us, definitely. I need to be on top of my game. But here it's best of five. It's going to be very physical and all the hard work that I put into preparing for this tournament, hopefully will play into my advantage and will pay off on the court.”
