Madrid keep up charm offensive on Bale as Zidane adds to the chorus

Real Madrid’s history is peppered with superstar purchases, a tradition in the Spanish capital whenever things don’t go their way. So, after a trophy-less season it is only natural that they are being linked with a big money move for a star name and there is none bigger than Gareth Bale at the moment.

And, like another Spanish tradition, Madrid have been using their players, ex-players, directors to constantly drop sound bites about the Tottenham winger. After Sergio Ramos, Zinedine Zidane has now joined the chorus by heaping praise on the Welsh wizard.

The Mirror quote the French magician comparing Bale with Ronaldo and Messi before ultimately dropping this teasing line: “Is he good enough for Real Madrid? Of course. He is more than good enough to play for Real Madrid.” This of course comes a few days after Ramos said this to The Sun about Bale: “Gareth Bale is a Real Madrid-quality signing. He has had an excellent season. He can punish any team in the world and has the footballing qualities we look for in Madrid.”

Interest in the Welshman is understandable as he has scored 26 goals this season for Tottenham and was named the PFA player of the year and young player of the year, as well as the FWA footballer of the year, a feat matched only by Cristiano Ronaldo, who had won all the three awards back in 2007 with Manchester United.

Bale has three more years left in his contract at White Hart Lane and has dropped the biggest hint yet that he will remain under Andre Villas-Boas when he declared that Spurs will have to re-group and launch a fresh assault on the Top Four next season after missing out by the narrowest margins this year. Champions League is what the 23 year old craves and what he deserves in reality as his talent should be tested on the biggest stage  and there none bigger than the Santiago Bernabeu.
